Living with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and having to deal with your fearful thoughts can be extremely difficult. It can be tough for people with OCD to have to experience obsessive thoughts that are intrusive, scary, and difficult to manage. As a result, here is a short list of techniques that a person can use to help manage their OCD and their obsessive thoughts.

The first thing a person must do is not to dwell or focus on the fear provoking thought when it comes. The more a person tries to reason out the thought or focus on the fear behind the thought, the stronger the thought becomes. The next time you encounter an obsessive thought, get into the practice of not dwelling on it.

From my interviews with various psychologists, I was told that a person should visualize a red stop sign in their mind when they encounter a fear provoking thought. When the negative thought comes, a person should think of a red stop sign which serves as a reminder to stop focusing on that thought and to think of something else. A person can then try to think of something positive to replace the negative thought.

A person should keep a small notebook of positive statements that makes them feel good. Whenever they come across a positive and uplifting verse that makes them feel good, write it down in a small notebook. A person can then carry this notebook around in their pocket and whenever they feel anxious, they can read their notebook.

Sometimes, a person may encounter a lot of scary thoughts coming at them all at once. Instead of getting upset, remember that these thoughts are exaggerated and are not based on reality. From my interviews with various professionals, I’ve learned that usually it is the fear behind the thoughts that gets us worked up. Ignore the fear behind these obsessive thoughts, regardless how the strong the fear may be. If you ignore the fear behind these thoughts, then the thoughts become easier to manage.

Another thing to remember is that no one can predict the future with 100 Percent certainty. Even if your fearful thoughts tell you otherwise, the fact is that there are circumstances and factors in every situation that can not be anticipated. We may be ninety-nine percent in predicting the future but all it takes is for that one percent to make the biggest difference.

Although I am a Layman and not a professional, I have interviewed many counselors and I learned that there are many ways to deal with these kinds of thoughts. It is also important to seek professional help if you have OCD. There are ways to deal with your obsessive thoughts and with the proper treatment, people with OCD can live a productive life.

Stan Popovich is the author of “A Layman’s Guide to Managing Fear” an easy to read book that presents a overview of techniques that are effective in managing persistent fears and anxieties. For additional information go to: http://www.managingfear.com

Energy from emotional and physical stress has a tendency to spread into your immediate environment. It can take away the feeling of sanctuary you need in order to relax and unwind. The good news is that you can get rid of that accumulation of negative energy. You can create a haven that you will feel happy, secure, and productive in. The following suggestions should help.

Let’s first define what your personal space is to you. It could be your entire home, apartment, bedroom, or even just the corner of your dorm room. For some, especially busy moms; the bathroom is the best space to retreat to for a few minutes of serenity. Whatever space you claim as your own, that’s the area we want to focus on.

Now we need to get a grip on any unnecessary clutter. Those ever-growing piles of papers and miscellaneous things to do won’t get any smaller until you take some action. Make a date with yourself, even if it’s only for 15 minutes a day and go through each and every item. Would you REALLY miss it if you didn’t have it? If your answer comes short of a very definite YES, then pitch it, recycle it, or donate it. You’ll be amazed at how much lighter and free you’ll feel once this is done!

When the de-cluttering process has been completed, get out your dust cloth and mop. Clean up all the spider webs and dust bunnies. Pay attention to windows too. Having a cleaner space will help you breathe easier and is a much healthier environment for body, mind, and soul. Please make sure you spend a little extra time in heavy traffic areas and the corners too.

Now that everything is nice and tidy, ask yourself what you have in your space that you enjoy looking at. Maybe it’s a beautiful view outside your window, or pictures of your family. Being able to focus visually on your favorite things will help encourage Happy Thoughts. Try to have at least one small item for this.

What about the lighting, is it harsh, or too dim? That is easy to adjust with either higher or lower watts of light bulbs. I’ve found 60 watt works the best for me, but you might want super bright 100 watt, or very dim 40 watt. It’s a matter of personal preference and is also very inexpensive to adjust to what you like the best. Nothing beats natural light through a window during the day, but you don’t have to have a window to get the same effect. There are even light bulbs that offer a natural lighting feel in a room, though they are a bit more expensive. Candlelight adds some elegance and is excellent at burning away stressful feelings in a room. It also helps with aromatherapy; we will talk about that more a little later.

How does your space sound? Is there an accumulation of outside noises that distract you from being at peace? Sometimes running a fan or a white noise CD is the perfect block to outside noises. Try different types of music to enhance the ambience in your room. New age and classical music both have regenerative properties that work wonders on your mental state. I would suggest staying away from the television, especially during high stress times. Newscasts, soap operas, “real TV”, to name a few, will increase the levels of negativity in your environment. If you are set on the TV, try to pick the most positive programming you can find.

Aromatherapy is a vital element in creating your peaceful space. The part of your brain that detects smells is closely linked with the limbic part of your brain, which is your emotional center. Smells can evoke memories, good ones and bad ones; they can leave you feeling happy, sad, and every emotion in between. Aromatherapy goes back as far as Hippocrates, the Greek father of medicine, who strongly recommended the use of aromatic essential oils for their relaxing properties. A few relaxing, stress-relieving scents include:

Cedarwood
Chamomile
Sage
Rosemary
Geranium
Jasmine
Lavender
Lemongrass
Orange
Rose
Rosewood
Sandalwood
Vanilla

You can use candles, incense, air fresheners of every different sort from sprays to plug-ins, or potpourri. Try a variety of types and aromas to see what works best for your own moods.

We have touched a little on how your room looks, sounds, and smells. These are important elements to consider in providing yourself with a mentally, emotionally, and physically healthy environment. You may want to think of the colors that are put in your room, the furnishings and how you arrange them. The temperature may need to be adjusted with fans or electric heaters. These ideas will set you on the way towards creating a peaceful sanctuary for yourself. What else can you think of to help yourself feel comfortable and relaxed? Get creative and have fun. Before you know it you’ll have your own piece of heaven on earth!

Most writers would like to be prolific in their chosen field, but not many really want to be prolific procrastinators.

Being one myself, I’ve discovered there are innumerable ways to put this innate skill to work. After all, how can I possibly write when my head is still fuzzy from sleep? This must be overcome first, which means having a pot of tea, taking a shower, seeing to the dogs’ needs, and catching up on the morning’s news via television.

That’s where my procrastination hit its stride. Until now.

Recently, I read a tale about a baker who puts up a beggar for the night, despite his struggling business. The next day, the beggar tells him, “Whatever you start, you will do all day.” The baker decides to make cookies with his last bit of flour and give them to a sick child. The delicious aroma drifting onto the street attracts many customers, but the baker is too busy to serve them. They serve themselves and leave the money on the counter. The baker’s business is saved for one more day.

A fellow merchant seeks the beggar, puts him up for the night, and gets the same message next day, “Whatever you start, you will do all day.” So the merchant sweeps the floor and counts his cash in anticipation of all the customers. When they come, he’s too busy to serve them, so they leave without buying anything. And the merchant spends the day sweeping and counting.

When I read that tale, I realized how much truth there was to it. From the moment I turned on my television set each morning, nothing else happened. Oh, I’d find time to run a few dishes under the tap, nibble on a sandwich, survey my 2500 square foot “estate” to make sure it was all still there, gaze into the sky to make sure it hadn’t disappeared either, and take a moment to sit in the sun to rest my brain, weary from absorbing all that input.

Afterward, when the news was in repeat mode and I found myself watching a version of “Murder She Wrote” for the fourth time, I’d turn to reading about writing. Know your craft. Isn’t that what experts say? Or, you can never learn enough.

Over the years, I’ve tried many techniques to get me writing, rather than just reading about it. One such attempt was to make a schedule of my day and detail everything from reading and answering my email for one hour only and searching the internet for markets or resources for two hours a day, to writing letters, queries and articles for four hours a day.

Its success was minimal because the internet took a great deal of time with my slow computer. And then there are all those intriguing links that seem important enough to lure me away from my intended research. Mostly, they would lead me to good information that will be useful for a piece I might want to write in the future, but they do nothing to further today’s efforts.

Trying to survive on a budget that doesn’t even fit a shoestring makes job hunting a dual goal. Before long, I’ve spent more time job hunting and researching than approaching a specific market or developing story ideas. The schedule still hangs on my wall, mostly forgotten.

Reviewing my former life as a secretary, I wondered why I was more organized and motivated then than now. My desk was cleaned every night and unfinished projects were piled in order of importance in my in-basket, ready to be completed and delivered the next morning. It was necessary to have such a system then, because my bosses would hover like vultures around my desk wondering when their work would be done. With five bosses, I’d soon have a mini-swarm blocking my light.

Putting this concept to use, I designed a notebook, complete with an orange glowing sun on the cover with the words, “Things To Do Today.” It turned out to be the major turning point in my procrastination career.

At the end of each day, I write down everything I want to get done and give them a date. Not a completion date. I head up each page with the date I enter them. In one column, I write the task and in another, I enter a check mark or a date when it’s completed. Each day starts with a new page and new goals. And every morning, I review the previous day’s list to see what I’d accomplished and what was left to do. The idea is to finalize all the old tasks before starting on the newer ones.

At first, the undone tasks outnumbered the completed ones. Seeing all those stale items every morning was unsettling, especially when I was more inspired to work on the fresh ones. What I hadn’t anticipated was how much it would bother me to look back at old lists and see so many things not marked off. Evidently, checking items off my list became the true goal.

Somewhere along the way, getting tasks done became the bonus and my focus. There was something satisfying about watching your life and accomplishments unfold one task at a time and being able to tell yourself every day, “I did all that.”

Ordering checks online has many benefits. First of all, it is a great way to have a customized design that matches your personality. Designs range from NASCAR, Disney and Christian and everything in between. There are so many to choose from, that it is impossible to not find the right design for you. Online merchants have hundreds of designs to choose from, and a lot of information on personal checks, address labels, business checks, rubber stamps or envelopes.

In addition to designs, the preferred merchants offer many different quantity options. It is possible to order 1 to 4 boxes, or order them in single or duplicates – it is up to you. And, if you would rather get your boxes on rush order from the plant, that is a possibility as well. Orders are available at almost any quantity, and beginning with whatever number you choose.

Another advantage of ordering your replacements online is that they are normally less expensive than going through your banking institution. Most of the time, ordering through your bank will cost you almost double and give you far less options than going through one of our online merchants.

There are a few things to consider when ordering business or personal checks online.

First, you need to have your bank’s routing number, account number, and address (usually a deposit slip is helpful as reference). Also, it may be a good time to order address labels, rubber stamps, or envelopes. Many merchants offer discounts when purchasing a bundle of products together, and most offer first time customers’ discounts as well. Look for the additional products like checkbook covers, and labels when you are placing your order.

Ordering checks online is secure and easy

When dealing with your bank account, it is a good idea to use companies that are registered with the Better Business Bureau and have a good standing reputation. Ordering online is very safe and offers many benefits. In fact, there is a lot of verification that goes into every online order to make sure that it is secure, safe and easy. Most times there is a waiting period so that online check merchants will have time to verify your information with your financial institution. Normally, this is around 3 to 5 business days.

When you have decided to start with your yoga practice, it is imperative for you to learn how to perform a pose properly. Thus it is advisable for you to find a right teacher who will guide you in the correct manner of performing these poses. Since yogic exercises involve the static and isometric contraction of the muscles, where the muscles are held in a state of tension without causing the corresponding body part to move; it is important to note that the stretching or contraction of the muscles should not be done abruptly or suddenly. You should endeavour to reach the final pose as slowly as you can, so that there is a steady rise in the tension of the muscles. Always reach the final posture slowly through the intermediate postures. Master all these postures slowly one by one.

The movement of each body part should be done under complete control of the muscles exercised. This is achieved only after practicing for a certain period of time. There should be no jerks or violent movements. Each step should be executed easily, smoothly and gracefully. Initially, when you start learning the yoga, there is a tendency to use muscles not concerned with the specified movement. But over a period of time with due practice, you can eliminate the unproductive muscular activity. As you progress, you learn to use only the specified muscles for contraction or stretching while the other muscles are kept relaxed.

Avoid rushing into the final position of any posture, unless you have thoroughly mastered the intermediate stages. Always proceed as far as comfortably you can and hold this pose for some time. This will train the required muscles in a few days and thus you can get smoothness and grace. Take caution not to overwork any muscles. Do not control or restrict your breathing. If you are sick or absent from your practice for a long time, start slowly and reach the previous level only after some time. At the end of the session, you should feel fresh and relaxed. You must experience the lightness and exhilaration at the end of every session.

You can adjust the duration of various techniques according to your capacity and there should be no exhaustion or tension.

Following all these practices will ensure you get a correct yoga session.

The latest ploy by the virulent anti-gun forces is to use the current fear of terrorism to push their agenda. They say that the terrorists are buying scads of firearms, especially assault rifles, through the gaping “loopholes” at the hated GUN SHOWS! As usual, they are lying through their teeth. Terrorists, like other kinds of criminals buy their weapons from scumbags just like themselves.

In the first place, the weapons the gun-grabbers love to hate are NOT assault weapons. They are all semi-automatic with operating mechanisms not much different from hunting or target rifles. “Assault weapons” are fully automatic, are exceedingly difficult to purchase or sell and have heavy government restrictions. Secondly, the gunshow “loophole” doesn’t exist. All licensed dealers at such shows are required to obey all laws regarding the sale of firearms, including background checks. The folks that buy or sell guns to each other as individuals do not fall under those regulations any more than they would if they were trading in their own home. Another gungrabber boogieman slain.

The “Brady Bunch,” one of the most virulent of the gun grabber outfits has decided that Florida’s new “Castle” doctrine will take us to the brink of civil war, so they are flooding the state’s major airports with fliers denouncing the law and they are placing ads in the newspapers of cities that provide a lot of Florida’s tourists warning them of the supposed danger. These are the same people who warn that every new law that makes it easier for law-abiding folks to have firearms will result in streets flowing with blood and law-enforcement officers slaughtered in their thousands They haven’t been right yet but they just hope for one tiny hiccup in the crime statistics because they know the media will turn it into a full scale massacre.

The anti-gun weenies also want to convince American citizens that government, not the people, are primarily responsible for protecting the individual. Well folks, it may come as a shock but the United States Supreme Court has plainly stated that the individual has no right to expect protection from the government police forces.

The only people who are going to protect us is; US!

It’s time for the Bush administration to knock off the kinder and gentler rhetoric they seem to love so much and rescind all of the previous administration’s anti-gun Executive Orders and Directives and to get their minions in Congress to work on legislation to permanently repeal the dreaded BATF 922 regulations on the importation of firearms as well as the myriad of other laws that have effectively disarmed a large part of the American populace.

If there are to be terrorist attacks on American soil in the future, (and I’m certain there will be) the people should be allowed to be at least as well armed as the terrorists. That means semi-automatic long arms, usually (and incorrectly, see above) referred to by the Left biased media as “assault weapons” and modern semi-auto handguns. Can’t you just see a bunch of American civilians going up against a gang of al-Qaida terrorists who are armed with AK-47s, AK-74s, high-capacity handguns and RPGs, while they are limited to an assortment of bolt action hunting rifles, .22 plinkers, rusty revolvers and antiquated shotguns? That’s all the anti-gun forces think we should have. The enemy has no such restrictions.

Suppose you are in a supermarket or department store and a bunch of armed homicide bombers comes charging in. You are faced with two choices; meekly submit and have a one hundred percent chance of being blown to smithereens or pull out your gun, fight back and have a chance to survive? Take your pick. I know mine.

Whenever the subject of easing the restrictions on Americans owning and carrying guns is raised the gungrabbers always paint a grim picture of western movie style slaughter in the streets. In fact the actual record shows quite a different picture. In states where “Must Issue” laws have been passed to allow any law abiding citizen to carry a gun, the rate of violent crime has gone down. The number of confrontations involving legal gun toters is nearly nonexistent. As usual, where bullets are flying through the air, they come from the guns of the gangs and drug dealers who continue to shoot each other up with illegally acquired firearms.

The Brady Bunch likes to use the specter of the “High Noon” or “O.K. Corral” shootouts as a grim reminder of the horrific results of an armed populace. In fact, that’s all Hollywood fiction. The “Old West” was actually a pretty peaceful place, in part because there were so many armed people around that the occasional miscreant would think twice about committing a crime, lest the mild-mannered storekeeper haul out his Colt .45 and “ventilate the varmint!”

Another straw man dragged out by the gun haters is the fear of the “vigilantes,” sometimes grandly referred to as “Committees of Vigilance.” (Even President Bush has bought into this baloney when referring to “The Minuteman Project.” down on the Mexican border) Always portrayed as evil men acting at the behest of some wealthy land baron, keeping the locals thoroughly cowed while they awaited the appearance of the handsome, clean cut, good hearted U.S. Marshal. The reason they can get away with that nonsense is that’s how the vigilantes were portrayed in decades of Hollywood western movies and TV shows to the point that the viewers believed, and still believe, that the films were a reflection of real life.

Were the vigilantes all honest, public minded citizens trying to bring a semblance of law to their frontier towns? Considering human nature, probably not, but neither were they all nefarious evil-doers. In most cases they were just regular folks who wanted to bring a semblance of law to their town and knew that the government wouldn’t and couldn’t provide it.

That’s what we need to do. Realize that the government can’t and won’t provide individual protection and that either as groups or as individuals we must provide the means and the mettle to take care of ourselves, our loved ones and our property. That’s what being an American used to be about. That’s what it should be from this day forward.

Searching for the perfect mate can be one of life’s greatest challenges.

Afterall, forever is a long time. You want to make the right decision.

Dating itself can be really trying. It can be hard to find the right people. What if they don’t share the same values and beliefs that you do? How do you handle that and when?

Wouldn’t it be easier to know ahead of time that they are Christian, just like you?

Wouldn’t it be easier to know their respect for God and other people, values and beliefs, mirrors your own?

I know my own dating experiences were trying at best. My stomach used to churn before hand. I’d be so excited to meet new people, only to cringe as that feeling was replaced with absolute, crushing hopelessness as the person demonstrated a trait I knew I just wouldn’t be able to tolerate.

If they said something snide about children and my being a parent, I knew it was over. If they weren’t pet people, it was going nowhere.

If they were vulgar, ignorant, not funny or if God didn’t have a place in their life like mine, what could we possibly have in common?

A few incidents come to my mind. The dental hygienist who chain-smoked. The girl who didn’t shave her legs, her armpits and didn’t wear deodorant (it took a few dates to begin to figure this one out).

I remember one Friday night where I thought I had met someone with real potential. She was highly educated, respectful and thoughtful. Several dates later, she showed up at my house with an open bottle of wine, already drunk. And then she stormed off when I mentioned concern that she had been drinking and driving.

So how do you find the right people? How do you at least give a first date a chance, by taking the time to get to know people coming from a similar place as you?

The workplace can be a popular source, if there are lots of employees and some that believe in God as you do.

But what if you work too much and don’t have time to meet people? Or, what if meeting people is quite a scary experience, and you’d like to find a “like minded group of people”, that you can get to know via email first before actually meeting?

The answer, more and more, is the Internet. Never before has the world’s millions of singles, been able to find sources of other singles who are just like they are.

The best part is these specific sources of singles can be pre-determined ahead of time. For instance, you’ll know you’re talking to someone who is Christian, because you found their ad on a Christian singles site.

Make sense? Much easier than trying to make these discoveries of values and beliefs over coffee or dinner.

You can further refine your search by specific age ranges, kids or not, divorced or not, white, black, location, income level, career path, Yankees fan or not (very important!), etc.

I finally found my Soul Mate through a personals ad on a website. We lived in different communities but on the same island (20 miles apart). More importantly, our hearts, beliefs, values, sense of humor and general outlooks were very similar. And we knew that before ever meeting.

It was wonderful courtship. We married the next year. And to this day, many years later, we laugh that the first date never ended.

You too can have this experience, when you find a source of like-minded people to start to get to know.

A massive and forever growing mobile telephone UK market following the rule of introducing the latest camera phone has now made it profoundly hard for individuals to compare cell phone deals. Most of the time, there are many aspects that you may need to look into when making mobile comparisons that some of the most key ones get missed out.

As a result, one regularly end up having a cell phone which is either too expensive or a mobile phone which is not perfect for your phone usage profile. Consequently we tell you in this blog about the two very most vital things that customers should constantly investigate when making phone comparisons. This will often help folk land a cell phone that at least meets the basic criteria people are looking for. Compare Mobile Phones and save money with Mobile Shop.

The total mobile phone market is booming on the basis of incredible features like interactive maps that keep getting added every week. On the other hand, an incredibly large majority of people acquire mobile phones based on their appearance, brand and brilliant marketing only to regret later on when folk find that their magnificent cellphone lacks an extraordinarily basic feature like sending text or bluetooth. Various fantastic pricey mobile phones sell on the basis of marketing, brand image and aesthetics at prices that are unjustified if you look at the lack of high end features. For example the most recent apple iphone does not let people forward messages to all. Unfortunately, Apple Iphones target audience, early twenties, gets to regret the removal of this mobile phone feature only after spending months worth of wages on it. Consequently make sure that your lovely new mobile phone has all the features like camcorders you require before tying yourself into a 12 month contract. Since mobile companies will never tell individuals about the eye-opening features like cameras that their phones lack, reading up online cell phone write ups is the very best way to do it.

Expanding awareness of who and what we are, look at life from a different perspective.

As I sit here I can feel the connection through the top of my head to a greater version of who I am. As I allow my awareness to settle into a meditative state and expand out from my body, it’s as though a column of energy or light is coming into my body through the crown chakra. As I become aware of this energy and merge my awareness with it, I feel I can travel within the light and expand my awareness out beyond my body.

As I allow this connection to be made, the first thing I connect with is our solar system: our sun and moon, and all the planets that orbit the sun. Many people are aware of the influence of these planets on their lives on a subconscious level.

Many people follow their horoscopes or astrology. But what I am asking you to do with me now is just feel this connection, this flow of energy into your body through the top of your head.

Just feel the energy in an effortless way and then give the intention to have your awareness in this energy. Hear the increase in frequency in your vibration as you connect to this energy.

Then expand your awareness out just with your imagination, so you feel that a ball of your consciousness has expanded and surrounds all these planets, with the sun in the middle. Just experience what it feels like to be aware, on a conscious level of the mind, of your connection to this energy.

Just ask for these energies to come into balance, to flow freely, and to feel whole and complete. See the many connections between the planets and the sun. See the full range of the electromagnetic spectrum radiating from the sun and the influence it is having. Feel the gravitational influence within the energy and how this affects your feelings and your mood.

As you feel this wholeness around you, just innocently allow that energy to merge with your body. Feel the balancing effect that it has. Feel the wholeness within, the peace and harmony, the healing effect. Just become aware of the inner silence and connection.

Now expand your awareness out again and see your connection to the galaxy. See our star and planets, merge into a larger plan, merge into a group of stars and planets, feel the influence of the energy at that level.

Listen again to the silence, and the tone of the vibration at this expanded level. How does it feel? What is your mood like? Just be the energy, merge your awareness with it. Then finally expand your awareness again and feel that the whole universe is contained within your awareness.

Just expand out to infinity in all directions, in all dimensions, and feel whole and complete. Just feel the energy and notice the silence ringing and ask yourself, has my vibration changed since I connected with this larger energy field.

Now just imagine that you are within your body, say, living on one electron going around the nucleus of one atom. Just look from that perspective at what you are seeing. You can see the positive nucleus radiating energy. If you like, just like a sun at this level, all the other electrons looking like other planets.

Expand your awareness out again and see the other atoms that make up a molecule in your body. They seem to form themselves into a kind of mini galaxy. See all the molecules that form a cell in the body. All these mini galaxies look a little like the Milky Way.

Expand your awareness out again, and see all the organs and all the connections within the body; and you see, from that level of one electron looking out, what looks like a whole universe within your own body.

What I am trying to say is that life repeats itself, in layers, one within the other. From the smallest to the largest; it really is just a question of perspective, and who we choose to be. Where we draw the line as to where our body finishes and some other thing starts which is not our body.

But I hope I have given you a way of looking at yourself and realising that perhaps there is no barrier where our awareness ends and this other thing starts.

Perhaps, if we were fully aware and expanded our energies out; felt the reality of being everywhere and everything, whole and complete. We may start to see the bigger picture and the interconnection between everything.

What I am asking you to do is share my vision to expand your awareness out and become conscious of the finer levels of yourself. Realise that perhaps there is no difference and each person, too, is part of everything.

Just look from a different perspective and noticing different things about who we are: The wholeness of life and consciousness.
