The dictionary defines waxing as: ‘a temporary method of hair removal which removes the hair at the root. New hairs do not grow back in the waxed area for three to eight weeks. Almost any area of the body can be waxed, including eyebrows, face, bikini area, legs, arms, back, abdomen and feet’. But don’t be fooled into thinking that waxing is for women only. Today’s fashion trends have men waxing their bodies for cosmetic reasons, and many athletes such as bodybuilders and swimmers have been waxing for years.

Most waxes are comprised of some proportional mixture of paraffin or beeswax, natural oils or fats, and a specially designed resin to help the wax adhere to the skin. Some brands of wax add Vitamin E or other supplements. If you think that you might want to try waxing, the first step, whether you are a male or female, is to decide if you want to use the ‘hot’ or ‘cold’ wax technique.

The hot wax method involves heating the wax to a comfortable temperature. A thin layer of wax is spread onto the area to be treated in the direction of the hair growth. Once the wax is cooled it is quickly torn off, in the opposite direction of the hair growth, and the hair is removed with it. With the cold wax process, strips of cloth are pre-coated with wax. You apply the strips to the area to be treated, rub the strips in the direction of hair growth, and then pull the strips off quickly in the opposite direction. Although hot waxing techniques are a bit more messy than cold wax ones, many people find that the hot wax gives better results.

You can apply a non-perfumed moisturizer to the treated area if you want to. Moisturizers that are fortified with Vitamin B and/or Aloe Vera are also good.

Always check to make sure that the hot wax is below scalding or burning temperature before applying.

Waxing is a great solution for the temporary removal of unwanted hair if you’re tough enough to stand a little pain.

Who’s World Is It?

Who’s world really is it? Is it a man’s world? There is a song by James Brown. “This is a mans world” is the chorus. Is this world the wealthy mans world? Those who have the money have the control, a lot of people will say. Is it the white mans world? Many people over the years have used this crippling concept, neutralizing their own ability of visualizing an outlook for themselves.

Life has no boundaries. The sky is the limit as far as what we can obtain in all aspects of what we choose to see. The vision of the world is of no monopoly to anyone or anything.

The World Is For Whoever

The world is yours. mines. His. Hers. The world is for whoever. Those who challenge themselves enough to realize its rewards for them self. The world is simply a visual and mental picture of all things that make up your reality. If we do not see it, then for us it does not exist for us. How can it? This article did not exist for you until you brought it into your reality by acknowledging it.

Stare at a piece of paper intensely for a minute, while telling yourself throughout the whole time that it is not a piece of paper, but rather a sheet of tin metal. In your world, this is what that piece of paper will become, and how can that not be the case, if that’s what you believe. This is your world.

Our Visions Form Our Reality

All things are first inspired through a visual picture. The music that you hear and listen to was arranged and inspired by the artist’s picture of a reality that is personal to them. They attempt to give you pieces, through their music.

The designs of the vehicles which you see and drive are inspired by the engineers perception of what he believes people, whom he’s never met, will like enough to go out and purchase it.

We scope out our relationships based on our perceptions of compatibility between the two persons involved. We draw up our goals according to a destination which we first only visually see, before making it a reality through achieving it.

We Shape And Mold Our World

We shape and mold our world according to how we view the circumstances which makes up our reality. This is why you will never be able to fully explain the extent of your view of your world. Our view is personal and formed specific to our likeness. Each of us have our own individual circumstances that conform our view accordingly, and no two views are the same. Same as no two people look exactly alike.

Invite Success

Think Positive

Through our perceptions is how we invite success into our lives. Our lives are shaped by how we view its reality. We hold the ability to manage our thoughts, envisioning positive things as well as negative things. Just because something is negative for someone else, does not mean it has to be negative for you. We all individually hold control over our belief in this position, where we will decipher circumstances consistent with our personality.

A person who thinks positive, is more likely to retrieve positive from a situation that most people will see as only being a bad situation. Just as a negative thinking person will see it undoubtedly as bad, with no chance of anything positive.

All things first take place by way of your vision of mind. Then transformed into a reality, consistent with your thoughts. This is why the traits of your personality which form your perceptions are so important. Nothing happens until we first perceive it as being. In the light, positive or negative, of how we perceive it is how we then direct it toward the reality we want it to be.

Envision It To Form Its Reality

Just as in the case of reaching success building wealth. If we do not first see it, then it is not likely to happen for us. When we believe it enough to see it for ourselves, we then naturally place ourselves in positions to realize and accept that reality.

Empower yourself and develop and conform your world, filled with the circumstances you want. Take control of your world and build its fortune, first by way of your perceptions, to then bringing them forth into reality.

Common Hair Mistakes

Comments Off

1. NOT TRIMMING YOUR HAIR EVERY 6 WEEKS.

The tip of each hair is weaker then the root, making it more vulnerable to breakage and split ends. Having the tips trimmed every 6 weeks helps to maintain the condition of your hair and its style.

2. WASHING HAIR ON A DAILY BASIS.

Regularly washing your hair strips it of essential oils and can leave it dry and brittle. If you have naturally oily hair, use a mild, pH-balanced shampoo. When washing your hair don’t rub the scalp vigorously as this will stimulate the oil glands to produce more sebum.

3. RUBBING YOUR HAIR VIGOROUSLY WITH A TOWEL.

The action of rubbing you hair with a towel actually roughens the hair cuticle, which can lead to frizzy, flyaway hair.

4. LEAVING SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER IN YOUR HAIR.

Shampoo and conditioner that is not thoroughly rinsed out of the hair is the worst culprit for bad hair days. It counteracts styling products, leaves your hair looking dull, limp and unmanageable. Try to rinse your hair for an extra couple of minutes after shampooing and conditioning.

5. BLOW-DRYING HAIR UNTIL COMPLETELY DRY.

Overheating your hair makes it susceptible to breakage and strips it of shine. A better idea is to blow-dry hair until its 80% dry and then let it air dry, naturally. Alternatively use a leave-in conditioner or styling product that protects your hair from heat styling. Also, hold the hair dryer at least 30 centimetres away from your hair.

6. NOT USING PRODUCTS RECOMMENDED FOR YOUR HAIR TYPE.

Many people misdiagnose their hair type and subsequently purchase the wrong hair products to style hair. Using the right product will help to recreate that special salon style.

7. NOT USING A CLARIFYING SHAMPOO ONCE A WEEK.

Everyday pollutants cling to hair and leave a thin coat of grime that dulls and weighs down the hair. Using a clarifying shampoo once a week will give hair a residue free fresh start.

8. THINKING THE LATEST FASHION HAIR CUT WILL SUIT YOU.

Let’s face it; we’re not all beautiful models. Not all of us can get away with the latest, trendiest, most fashionable hair cut. May be that fashion cut can give you a worst look. It all depends on individual, their texture, their lifestyle, their quality of hair. Drastic haircuts take a long time to grow out, so be sure you want to take the risk before sitting in the char and letting your hairdresser go to work. Be specific and take lots of photographs to ensure you are getting the look you want. It is a good idea to take along a trusted friend for advice! Better yet, is to check out the style gallery on our website http://rexsalon.4mg.com.

The nature of hair is to grow. That’s why laser clinics and other so called “permanent” hair removal methods cannot and will not guarantee permanent hair removal results. Once you better understand hair and the hair growth cycle you’ll know why claims of permanent hair removal are like claims of permanent weight loss: dubious. Without continued vigilance, hair, like weight, will come back.

There are three key factors to understanding hair and hair growth: types of hair, the hair growth cycle, and follicle activation.

Most people have three types of hair: vellus, intermediate and terminal.

* Vellus: Small, colorless hairs often referred to as peach fuzz.

* Intermediate: Thin, shortish hairs between vellus and terminal (hence the name) typically exhibiting some lower level of pigmentation.

*Terminal: Fully pigmented or gray, deep-rooted, coarse hairs. These are the hairs most consumers want removed.

All hairs, regardless of type, have a three-stage growth cycle. The first phase is anagen or the active growing phase. Depending on the body area somewhere between 10% and 90% of hairs are actively growing. The second phase is catagen, a transitional phase that is the shortest of the three phases. The third and final phase is telogen, the inactive phase. This is the longest phase and lasts until the hair is shed and the cycle repeats itself. This phase can last up to a year.

The final point to consider is follicle activation. Our skin is covered with thousands and thousands of follicles. Many follicles are like volcanoes: dormant but not extinct. Even though these follicles aren’t currently producing hair they can be activated at any time. The primary catalysts are hormones. If you have any experience with teenagers, pregnancy or just getting older (did your husband get back hair for his 45th birthday?) you know exactly what I’m talking about. And as sure as some people want to get rid of hair, others want it to grow again and seek products to stimulate follicles (see Rogaine). In short, you can’t keep a good follicle down so new hairs are likely to grow even after a “permanent” hair removal procedure.

Consumers have a reasonable expectation that the word permanent, when used in conjunction with hair removal, actually means existing perpetually. However, as we’ve shown, the nature of hair is to grow. Therefore, the so called permanent hair removal industry is seeking to redefine the word “permanent.”

It’s fair to say that permanent hair removal is achieved when a particular hair follicle is rendered impotent or incapable of generating new hair. But, because follicles are so numerous, hair is likely to emerge from nearby follicles. So, even if “permanent” hair removal is achieved (i.e. a follicle destroyed), the area that was treated is still likely to produce new hairs.

This fact has given rise to lesser claims of “permanent hair reduction.” The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) describes “permanent hair reduction” as, “The long-term, stable reduction in the number of hairs regrowing after a treatment regime.” It goes on to state, “Permanent hair reduction does not imply the elimination of all hairs in the treatment area.” This is when the whole conversation begins to sound like a politician reading “Alice In Wonderland.”

So just what is permanent about “permanent hair removal?” The answer to this question gets more elusive when you consider that a significant percentage of consumers don’t respond to either electrolysis or laser hair removal. Things become grayer still when regrowth rates for laser-treated follicles are estimated at somewhere between 20% and 80%, and 10-50% for electrolysis.

The bottom line is that hair grows. That’s just what it does. While laser hair removal treatments and electrolysis can effectively destroy active follicles, calling either method permanent is like pulling a few dandelions and declaring your lawn free of weeds forever.

When you factor in the cost, the pain, the potential for scarring and other real health risks associated with so called “permanent” hair removal techniques, you might want to reconsider a temporary hair removal method that has been around for centuries: waxing.

Waxing isn’t permanent. But it works.

Are you one of these people that were born with brown hair and brown eyes, but you always wanted to have blue eyes and blond hair? Color contact lenses and a little hair dye can accomplish this quickly. Eyes that are brown have more melanin in the iris than lighter colored green or blue eyes. As we age our eyes change color a little also. A color contact lens can temporarily change your eye color and really become a fashion statement.

Eyes that are brown or any color can easily be changed with today’s technology of a color contact lens. These contacts are safe and comfortable as any other contacts might be. They can be worn as extended wear contact lenses, disposable or hard rigid lenses. There are four different types of color contacts and each one offers a slightly different benefit. The first one is just a visibility tint so if you drop a lens; you can easily find it. These lenses do not alter the color of the iris at all. The second tint is an enhancement tint. These lenses will only alter your eye color slightly and enhance your natural color of eyes. The third is the actual color tint and what you normally think of to change those brown eyes into blue or whatever you choose. There is a wide array of specialty colors on the market today. The fourth is a light filtering tint. These lenses are designed for athletes or sports fans; enhancing ball color or making the ball stand out more. When color contacts first came on the market, I think they looked a little artificial. Only rigid hard lenses were available and you could definitely see the rim around the iris. Now they are making them so that they look more natural on the eye and it is hard to tell if the person is wearing them at all.

Some would like to change the color of their eyes but they have 20/20 vision. These particular kinds of contacts are called plano and still must always be fitted by a professional. If they are not fitted by a physician, infection and permanent eye damage may occur. Always ask your doctor if color contacts could be good for you and your particular vision problems. If you are a regular contact lens wearer; it may be fun for you to change up your eye color and order some blue eyes in place of your brown ones.

If you are considering liposuction, you are far from alone. Statistics show that in the mid 90s as many as 300,000 people had liposuction each year. That number is increasing as the popularity for cosmetic surgery grows. The best statistic you’ll hear if you are considering this procedure – it has a very high satisfaction rate!

First introduced in 1979, liposuction has changed significantly over the years. When first performed, this surgery required lengthy stays in the hospital with long recovery times and even blood transfusions. Known as a “Tummy Tuck”, the procedure was done in a similar fashion to a c-section – a big smile incision was cut from hip to hip and then removal of the skin and fat underneath was accomplished. However liposuction performed in this way resulted in patients generally not being able to walk upright for up to six weeks, suffering great pain and scarring.

Today, liposuction can be done as an outpatient procedure at one of many surgical center facilities. It is relatively painless with bleeding, infections and other complications very rare. The normal events that will occur when liposuction is planned are the following:

Consultation with the doctor. At this visit, the doctor will look over the patient and draw on areas where he will be performing the liposuction. These drawings will occur around the entire body, as the doctor will normally be looking at improving the look of the body from all angles.

Day of surgery:

Upon arrival, the patient may be given something like Valium to help them relax (if nervous).

Demerol or other pain reliever is injected.

Lying down, the fatty areas of the body are filled with a solution of sterile salt water, adrenaline and anesthetic.

When the anesthetic takes effect, small holes are made in the skin with small needles where fat is to be removed.

A cannula, or thin tube, is then inserted into the fatty areas. Suction removes the fat through this tube and puts it into a disposable container.

After the fat is removed, you are wrapped in a dressing that stays on your body for approximately five days. Foam pads are placed on the areas where the cannula entered the skin and the patient is then placed in a garment similar to a girdle. This girdle-like garment holds the patient’s skin tightly and holds the foam pads firmly in place.

Recovery:

Day of surgery – After the procedure is completed, the patient can normally return home in about an hour. When home, many take the rest of the day “off” and rest or sleep.

Day after surgery – Most patients feel sore, but there is little discomfort. The girdle-garment begins to feel constricting on the day after surgery.

Second day after surgery – Many patients have called this the “worst” day of the entire experience. The overall feeling of being sore and bound up is the most unpleasant on this day.

After that, the liposuction experience just keeps getting better and better. Small amounts of activity can be done from the day after surgery and many patients are back to work by the third day after the procedure. The foam pads can be removed after the fifth day. When the pads are removed, the patient has an opportunity to see a glimpse of their new body…and most love what they see!

The rest of the recovery period is just the body gradually healing. Drainage from the treated sites normally stops by the seventh day after surgery, the slight bruising that can occur will heal in about two weeks, and puffiness and swelling can take several months to completely disappear. The garment given to the patient after surgery must be worn for up to 4 weeks.

After the recovery period has ended, the patient’s opinion of the liposuction is almost always positive. Dropping a size or two can make anyone feel better about themselves.

The only thing those who are thinking about liposuction must realize is that this procedure doesn’t permanently eliminate fat. If you have liposuction and return to your old habits (lack of exercise and overeating), the fat will come back quickly. However, liposuction in addition to a new lifestyle of moderate exercise and healthy eating can lead to a much thinner, shapelier body in the end.

DON’T STRESS YOUR SCALP…. Avoid SOME Hair Loss!

You are most-likely aware that having Bariatric or Gastric Bypass surgery DOES cause you to experience “some” type of hair loss as you lose the weight so rapidly. You’ve heard the rumors, and they are TRUE to the point that you WILL LOSE some hair… but you will not be bald in the least! In all of my years attending a support group, NEVER have I seen one bald person yet! So rest assured that although you DO lose “some” hair, it won’t be all.

Let’s simplify this topic by putting it in a question/answer format:

Q: Why do we lose some hair?
A: As a pre-op person, you used to consume between 3,000 to 5,000 calories a day. But once you have the surgery, your caloric intake is drastically reduced to a mere 300-600 calories a day. This puts the body in an “emergency” mode as it thinks something is terribly wrong, and it begins to focus ONLY on supporting the vital organs that will sustain life. Hair has never been under the category of a “life-sustaining” organ; therefore, the body puts the hair on the back-burner until it is sure that the body is going to be okay enough to again send nutrients to the hair.

Q: When does hair loss begin?
A: It normally will begin anywhere from one month after surgery and last until about 6 months after surgery. Of course, this can begin during the third month or even extend beyond the sixth month. It varies from person to person.

Q: How much hair is lost?
A: Some will jokingly tell you that they could build a cat out of all the hair they lost, but that is not true. While you will notice some handfuls come out as you wash your hair in the shower, see more than normal in your comb or hairbrush, and perhaps even see some on your pillow when you wake up in the morning — this is nothing to be alarmed over. IT WILL STOP FALLING OUT once the body begins to feel that life is “normal” and it will trust that it’s okay to send nutrients to the hair again. Be patient and know that it DOES STOP in time.

There ARE some TIPS that will help you NOT experience so much hair loss, however…..

DO NOT wear a hat, scarf, head bands, tight barrettes, ponytail holders or anything similar that will pull or tug on the follicles of your hair. Pulling and pushing on the hair weakens it when it is already eager to fall out. Avoid these items for at least the first six months after surgery.

DO NOT stress the hair with hot treatments such as hairdryers, curling irons, or hot rollers. Stand in front of a fan to dry your hair in a hurry and use good hair jells to create some curl if you want. Sprays are okay too. Even hair color is okay IF you do it sparingly rather than the standard automatic every 6 weeks. Try to go 8 weeks in between hair coloring. Perms are a bit more stressful, though some have had success doing them. You’ll have to judge this for yourself as you evaluate this for yourself. You can always be confident in asking your hairdresser about it if you are not sure.

DO TRY a new hair style. As heavy people, we often relied on our hair’s BEST looks to draw attention away from our extra pounds. But as you are losing, people aren’t noticing your hair anymore… they are noticing the pounds falling off, which is a perfect time for you to consider totally changing your hair style IF it will help you manage it better and also keep more of it on your head. Long hair is a heaviness on the head, which does stress and pull at the hair follicles. So perhaps a shorter style would help your delicate hair stay ON the head. Just as your body is experiencing a “makeover”, why not consider your hairstyle as well…. Especially if it will help you KEEP more hair?

DO TRY a product called NIOXIN that you can purchase from your beauty salon. It’s a three-step process of a product that helps cancer patients keep more of their hair as it falls out. It strengthens the follicles. I personally used this product, and I fully believe it helped more of my hair stay attached than what might have happened had I not used it. I noticed a remarkable difference when I used this product. And I can tell you that others also have similar testimonials on this product.

DO TRY to remember that your hair is only falling out temporarily and it will soon STOP and STAY ON again! Some people have experienced that their hair soon becomes healthier than they’ve ever had before! Sometimes the texture even changes…. Sounds FUN, huh? It can be!

BOTTOM LINE: Have a GOOD ATTITUDE about your hair… take care of it, baby it, and you’ll find that you’ll be out of that FALLING OUT Zone shortly! Today’s hairstyles ARE more relaxed, and with the right cut, you’ll look just as glamorous as a celebrity! Don’t despair…. Just know that we’re NOT a group of baldies!!!

In addition to hair and nail services, they offer relaxing muscle massages, pedicures, manicures, deep cleansing facials and even body scrubs, all in a comforting, soothing environment. Most offer gift certificates and will combine services into ‘packages’ at a reduced price.

Winter weather wrecks havoc on our skin, especially our hands and feet, leaving them dry and cracked. I don’t know about you, but my lotion just ain’t getting it! Dead skin cells on your body can prevent your oil and lotion from soaking in, leaving you with a bad case of winter itch. Get rid of all that dead, dry (ashy) skin with an invigorating sea-salt body scrub. Your face can get ashy, also, and feel dry and tight. Contrary to popular belief, Black women and men needs facials too! A good facial will deep clean your pores – removing black heads, acne and even hair and shaving bumps- and leave your face smooth and hydrated.

If nothing else, get a massage, especially if you have children. They are great for your body and spirit; they can tone muscles and are ultra relaxing. Massages can be purchased by the hour (full body) or half hour (back only). During a massage, you will be asked to remove all of your clothes. Don’t be shy, but feel free to leave your underwear on. You will be covered by a sheet at all times. So, lay back, enjoy the candlelight and listen to soothing sounds while being massaged with warm oil. Or better yet, learn how to massage each other in a class you can take together.

Sunless tanning has many advantages over the traditional sun tanning. Some people are unable to tan due to their melanocytes not being in working order. Sunless tanning avoids this problem as it does not require melanocytes. The active ingredient in many sunless tanning supplies is Dihydroxyacetone[DHA]. DHA saturates the dead skin cells at the surface of the outside layer of the skin, turning the dead cells brown (or tan color).

Sunless tanning is completely safe. There is a common myth that sunless tanning is unsafe. The FDA in the 1970s banned tanning pills which are completely different than the sunless tanners on the market today. Today’s sunless tanning products are safe even for children(always consult your own doctor, prior to using any product as he knows any allergic reactions you or your child may have).

The nice thing about sunless tanning is that the tan is temporary. They usually last around five to seven days after that it wears off and you get progressively lighter. This is perfect for those people who are attending a wedding and want to have a nice tan!

Another advantage of sunless tanning is that sunless tans instant. You do not have to start “working on a tan” months in advance. You can also control how dark you are with sunless tanning.

One of the best advantages of sunless tanning is you do not have tan lines like lying out in the sun. Many women do sunless tanning just for this benefit!

Going tanning at a tanning salon is expensive, sunless tanning is cost effective for. Many drug stores have a store brand of self tanner that works great and is just as good as many of the more expensive products.

Finally, you do not have to do this alone. Many of your friend’s already sunless tan, every so often get together for a “tanning party.” These tanning parties are getting more and more popular with self tanners.

How should you choose the location to perform your laser hair removal? Because it is such a costly investment and it is really something the outcome can not be predicted for, you really should invest the time in finding the right company to take your business to. The goal is to find the most experienced individual.

Some companies will try to lure you in with discounts. Others will make promises of complete, permanent hair loss. The goal here is not to look for these individuals and these rates. You need quality. If you have to go in several times, each time costing you several thousand dollars for your laser treatment, you are not saving any money in the long run. Instead, just visit an experienced individual and get a good treatment from the start.

Pre Screening

Once you do find a quality individual to take your laser needs to, you’ll need to be prescreened for the procedure. There are a few things that you can do to make sure that you get the best treatment in the long run. For example, do not suntan near the time of your treatment as this can make a large difference in the outcome. You can also benefit from not eating a large amount of foods that are rich in beta carotene such as carrots. These can change the pigment of your skin enough to cause the flow of laser energy to the hair follicle to be stopped. A couple of days before you have the treatment shave. But, make sure this is several days before so that your hair is still growing but not too short either.

What Happens

Once you get into the location, get your protective goggles in place and relax, the procedure will begin. All that happens is a laser is turned on, it passes through the skin to the hair follicle and destroys it. That’s the extent of it. The procedure is not painful and is not necessarily harmful. You may experience some side effects such as some reddening of the area, swelling or a burning sensation. Most of these are only temporary and will be gone within a few seconds.

Why Do It?

Why should you invest the time and the money in a procedure like this? First off, it is not an invasive procedure; there are no gross creams, cuts from razors or a lot of hard work involved. And, once the process is complete, that’s it. You won’t have to shave again tomorrow. And, while it may grow back, the hair will be lighter and harder to see if it does.

What you do have to overcome though is the fact that it may not work for everyone. And, it can be costly especially when there is a need for several treatments. You may need to see the technician for follow up treatments.

So, is laser hair removal the right choice for you? Can you afford to have the procedure done? Is your skin and hair color the right combination? Find an experienced technician to talk to and really find out if this could be the right way for you to stop having to worry about hair growth.
