Spirit of Christmas

Comments Off

Of all the festivals in the year, it is Christmas season that is the most popular worldwide. A warm feeling spreads through you with the thought of the long holiday season looming excitingly large over the horizon. It is all about love and sharing, giving and graciously receiving. In that spirit you pull out your list of gifts to get family and friends.

Shopping early helps you enjoy every minute of it, because isn’t it all about the spirit of joy? Then again, even if you are running behind schedule, settle down in the warmth and luxury of your own home and let Spacify do the rest. This website has Christmas gifts, home décor ideas and something for just about everyone you can think of, in a range to suit every pocket and requirement. There is nothing more satisfying than a well-planned budget to add to that already warm feeling of giving and sharing. All it takes is a quick glance through the new range that offers attractive and excitingly unique gift items.

Start with the budget gifts for the discerning. At under $50, the Streamline Cab (Black) is a shiny-nosed smoothly crafted temptation that any child would love to possess. This classic wooden toy makes a pleasant change from molded plastic that has flooded their little world. Then again, when you wish for that little extra indulgence for your niece or nephew, at under $ 250, the Rocking Horse (Red) is a steal. This Playsam’s glossy piece is completely child-safe and a must-have to brighten any child’s heart. You would go right to the top of the list as ‘favourite’ uncle or aunt.

Benign and happy thoughts take you beyond family and friends to colleagues at work. You remember a kind deed you would like to repay beyond a mere ‘thank you’. Then why take that mandatory vintage, when you can take the wine rack instead. Stand by and watch as the bugsy look creates a stir. This Wine Bug sits, it stands, it pours, all for under $50!

As your long list gets shorter, treat yourself to a personal piece of furniture you know will grab the attention of all who visit. The Pantone chair in Red for under $100 can add the right festive tone to your existing modern chair collection.

When it comes to family, the sky’s the limit, though this time you don’t have to go all that way. The Wine Sequoia at under $250 could be the answer as an unusual gift idea that will give them something you know they would truly appreciate and this particular tree stacks a stronger punch than the beautiful Christmas tree sparkling in the hall.

Holiday gifts for the family can get tricky. Do you know their tastes? It is an adventure you begin that ends satisfactorily at Spacify. Delve deeper, let the colours of Yule tide guide you in your choice through the range of under the $500 items of unique Christmas gifts that will remain a silent reminder the whole year through. Take the sturdy Flo ladder for instance. With this, you just cannot miss your step! Compact and elegant it is this year’s choicest for any home.

Who wouldn’t love a funky Shower curtain! This transparent sheet is covered with the designer’s own signature, the Space Monkey. While it may not be in the colours of Christmas, it carries all the warmth of a personal gift.

The Good Luck Fireplace tools come packaged with the magic words…easy to clean! As a home décor gift, this set will surely be warmly received.

Man’s best friend comes in all shapes and sizes from massive Great Danes to microscopic Teacup Chihuahuas. It pays to be educated about the breed of dog you’re considering. Here are some things to take into account about the Maltese.

The Maltese is a member of the toy class, usually weighing between three and 10 pounds. Its most prominent characteristic is its long, flowing white hair with no undercoat. Because the Maltese don’t have fur like other breeds, it will lose hair the way humans do instead of shedding like most dogs. Perhaps the most interesting and unique characteristic of the breed is its color-changing nose. The nose can change from coal black to a light brownish color or even pink depending on the amount of sunlight the animal is exposed to. The nose of a female Maltese may change color when she goes onto heat.

Because Maltese don’t shed if properly and regularly groomed, they make good pets for people who suffer with allergies.

The breed’s temperament lends itself to companionship. The Maltese is happiest when in the company of family and friends being lavished with affection. Like most small breeds, they are energetic and given to sudden bouts of activity, but their small size makes them a good option for apartment dwellers. Maltese are very smart. Their high intellect makes them easy to train and quick at picking up new tricks.

Maltese are generally good natured and playful, but like any pack-oriented animal, they might not do well with small children or strangers. They are very territorial and likely to be protective of the family unit.

Like anything else with hair, a Maltese must be regularly groomed to prevent matting. Some caretakers find a way around the chore by keeping their dogs in what is known as a “puppy cut” or a “teddy bear cut,” where the hair is kept short, about a half an inch, all over the body. This style is certainly less fuss and may be more comfortable for the dog, but it’s not acceptable for a show dog.

Maltese are relatively healthy dogs, usually unburdened with the afflictions of other pure breeds. However, luxating patella, white dog shaker syndrome and progressive retinal atrophy are common in Maltese that do develop problems. Luxating patella is a condition in which the kneecap slips out of place. White dog shaker syndrome is a sudden onset of tremors, sometimes full seizures, that troubles only white dogs. Progressive retinal atrophy is just what it sounds like. It will eventually result in blindness for which there is no cure.

In keeping with the designer breed trend, Maltese are often bred with other breeds, such as poodles, to emphasize their sweet nature and intelligence.

Before you can understand the importance of paternity testing, you must first understand the DNA element involved and why DNA is used to establish paternity. DNA is the pattern for your genetic makeup. Each and every person has a different pattern of DNA. However, persons belonging to certain ethnic backgrounds, certain races, or simply certain features, can have DNA that shows related characteristics. No two people, except for identical twins will have the same DNA.

Every person has 46 chromosomes in each cell. The only exceptions are the sperm and egg cells. They each have 23. At the moment of conception, however, the 23 chromosome from the sperm and egg combine to form 46, and at that moment, you have the chromosomes needed to create a new person. This pattern for your genetic makeup is a combination of maternal DNA and paternal DNA. In other words, half your makeup is your mother’s and half is your father’s. Now, since the mother would be the person giving birth, there is no dispute about maternal proof. She was there at birth. But what about paternal proof? How do you determine the identity of the father, without a shred of doubt?

Enter DNA paternity testing. DNA testing works in the following way. The DNA of the child is tested. A test strip of DNA “bands” is established. The DNA is then tested from the alleged father. If the child and the man share common “bands” in a number of different locations, then paternity is established with 99.9 percent accuracy. That is as accurate as the results can be. This is a seemingly simple test, to have such a staggering effect on the people’s lives that are involved. Entire families have been ripped apart over paternity issues. Lives have been forever changed, thanks to one little DNA test.

Today, paternity testing is utilized to decide custody cases, establish legitimate child support cases, influence adoption proceedings, and to aid in claiming inheritance by providing proof of relationship. By far, however, the largest use of DNA testing is in determining paternity issues. Most courts accept 99.9 percent positive as equal to a result of 100%.

There are tests available that can be used at home, but in the case of a legal battle, or establishing legal paternity, only the tests conducted by certified and licensed facilities will be allowed.

An instance from the life of Moses teaches us about an essential tool for any leader – the art of delegation.

Exodus 18: 13 – 24 (From the King James Version of the Old Testament)

And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening. And when Moses’ father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even?

And Moses said unto his father in law, Because the people come unto me to enquire of God: When they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I do make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.

And Moses’ father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good. Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone. Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God: And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.

Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens: And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee. If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go to their place in peace.

So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father in law, and did all that he had said.

Moses and Delegation

In ancient history, Moses stands as one of the most influential leaders of the ancient world. Raised as royalty in Egypt, he later became the leader of the Hebrews who were enslaved by Egypt. Ultimately, Moses led his people from Egypt, and into the surrounding wilderness.

From a leadership perspective, Moses had a great deal on his plate. He led more than a million people, in matters religious, political and even in day to day activity. Because of his prominent position as a religious figure, his counsel was sought as a judge in almost all matters. We read in Exodus 18:13 that “Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening.” So many people sought his advice that it filled his day completely, leaving no room for any other activity, regardless of how important.

We read further on that Moses did so out of a perceived obligation. Because he was their prophet, he felt compelled to address every request for his time and attention. This is a common feeling among leaders. Not wanting to ignore the needs of those they lead, it is easy for new or inexperienced leaders to be overwhelmed by the demands placed upon them, and to try to do too much themselves.

Moses’ father-in-law, Jethro, watched all of this one day. Whether Jethro had past leadership experience is not made clear, but is likely, given the pointed advice he gave to Moses. Jethro saw clearly that Moses was seeking to do too much, and told him so, “The thing that thou doest is not good. Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone.”

When placed in a leadership position, one has to keep several factors in mind. There is of course the need to meet individual wants and needs, but this is a secondary concern. When leading a group, the needs of the group come first. A leader is committed first to the group, then to the individuals that comprise its members. Next, a leader must be in a position to lead, to meet the needs of both the group and its members. If not, then both of those concerns go unaddressed. So we see that as a leader, one has to also take care of oneself. A failure to do so is a failure to care for the group. These three interests – the needs of the group, the needs of the leader, and the needs of the individuals in the group – must be kept in balance. Any failure to meet these three is a failure to effectively lead.

Moses had made this same mistake. By focusing on the needs of individual members of the group, the needs of the entire group went unmet. The personal cost to the leader created a situation that couldn’t sustain itself; eventually, the strain placed on Moses would be too much. Without their leader, the group, both as a whole and on an individual level, would be lost, and would likely fail.

How then can these three important interests be balanced? Jethro teaches his son-in-law, the answer to this problem is delegation. Alone, one person cannot do it all, not for such a large group. There is simply too much for any one man to do. There needs to be a clear idea of what role the leader must fill. Moses, being the prophet of the Hebrew people, was the only one capable of speaking the will of God to those he led. This was a role he needed to fill. There were other matters that were more mundane in nature that others could deal with. Personal disputes, division of labor and goods, and the day to day difficulties that arise in any group – these could be taken care of by others.

Jethro outlined for Moses a simple hierarchy of managers – some in charge of groups of ten, then fifty, some over hundreds, some over thousands. On the lowest level, individuals were dealt with ten at a time. The leader above them had responsibility for five of those small group leaders. This structure continued upward to Moses, creating a simple organization, but one perfectly capable of organizing the million or more people that Moses was responsible for. Should a crisis arise that required the involvement of Moses, he was free to do so, no longer weighed down by lesser concerns.
In our own lives, delegation can be a powerful tool. As a coordinated group, people can accomplish great things, but it is uncommon for great things to occur without the influence of one who acts as a leader. Someone must bring the group together and point them in the right direction. Someone must coordinate the efforts of the group, and must keep things running smoothly. You can be that leader, but to do so, you need to realize you cannot do everything. Let others assist you, and you will find yourself doing so much more.

Before the state structured settlement protection statutes and the Victims of Terrorism Relief Act of 2001 which created 5891 of the Internal Revenue Code, any one wanting to sell their settlement payments were on their own. The sale of structured settlement payment rights today requires a Court in your state to review and, if appropriate, make a “qualified order” approving the sale of such payments or a hefty 40% excise tax is applied. The concept of Court approval is intended to protect you from entering into a deal that is not in your best interest.

Should I sell my payments?

The answer to that one is difficult. The question you might ask yourself:Do I need the money now?
For example: to buy a house, pay for an education, a business opportunity or to keep from filing bankruptcy. Any good reason would make sense. To go on vacation or buy an Acura Legend might not be in your best interest.

If you have other money sources to explore, I suggest using those options first. Selling your structured settlement should be a last resort.

Remember to first look for other sources of money like family, banks and ect., before selling payments. If your settlement is your only source of income it is not in your best interest to sell. Make sure the people who are buy your payments have your interests in mind. SELLER BEWARE.

I hope that you have a positive experience and put the money to good use, if you decide to sell your payments.

There’re several thousand online casinos in the world today – is it possible to find in this multitude the one which best for you? The answer is yes. There’s only a handful of companies out there who provide professional casino software. Various online casino owners purchase the software, but the look and feel, payment methods and bonus structure remain mostly unchanged and depends on the software used. Thus, you will often hear phrases like “Microgaming casinos”, “Playtech casinos”, “Cryptologic casinos”, etc. Some online casinos use their own, or “proprietary”, software, but you have to be extra careful with those!

Some casinos will not accept (“blacklist”) gamblers from certain countries, due to high level of fraud, so check your country is not blacklisted before you sign up.

Once you’ve decided on casino/software, follow these simple rules to minimise risking your money:

  • Try out their customer support system. If can’t find contact telephone numbers or there’s no 24 hour technical support, find another casino!
  • Look at the domain name. Unusual, long-winded and complicated names with a lot of hyphens usually indicate that this a new or amateur business. Avoid.
  • Check the licence. An online casino may legally operate without it, but a few good established casinos will have it, even if to boost customers’ confidence and their sense of security.
  • Does casino offer ‘free chips’ or free trial games? This is a good way to try out casino software without risking your own money.
  • Do your homework and find as many user reviews as you can.

What I always tell people is, “Use yourself as the measure.”
If you won’t buy it, why do you think others will? OK, so you might catch a few intellectually-challenged people but the adage is true that you can skin a sheep once but you can shear it many times. So ideally, you should choose a business model that will last.

Have you ever paid for a date or friendship? Will you buy used clothing even offline? Oh, but it worked in the States! Well, in the States, there are over 203 million people online so it is especially true for them that there is a buyer for everything. You, however, would need a lot of time, patience and deep pockets to be internationally promoting and funding an e-commerce site while waiting to find a buyer for something that you wouldn’t buy yourself. Of course, if your target market is the States, then pack your wallets and go brave.

If you would buy it yourself, ask a couple of other people who are likely to be part of your target market and find out if they would buy it online or better still if they’re buying it offline now. If your answers are for the most part positive, you might be on to something. If not, maybe you can start small with a simple website that just takes orders online but processes payment offline. That way, you wouldn’be be out of beer money too early.

At one time, only a few such as the self employed really had
to know much about selecting medical insurance because for
many years, the majority of the working population was
working in “employee” status and Medical Insurance was a
company benefit, and one that had very few choices involved.

Today that benefit is either disappearing or being offered
with choices ranging from family plan to PPO to HMO to no
participation; choices also include the amount of payroll
deduction based on plan choice, and it’s a complex situation
to decide.. does one opt for the plan with a $500
person/$1000 max deductible which has virtually no payroll
deduction, or the plan with the $250/500 but with a $25 per
month deduction. Of course those figures are arbitrary for
the purpose of the article and cited only as examples.

But there are choices that can and need to be made.. in
fact, some times those choices now come down to “where can I
get my own insurance… period?” as so many companies have
either layed people off or cut the Medical Benefit entirely.

Let’s say you are one of those people.. hopefully not, but
we need to cut to the chase.

The first thing to see is if a spouse is working, is
insurance offered from their employer? Possibly they were
not on a family plan, but this is now required.

Usually even with an employer requiring a contribution, a
employer provided plan is less costly than going out 100%
percent on your own. This should really be checked out.
Employer group rates are generally less than an individual
getting their own insurance.

But let’s say this does not apply. But the principle of bulk
or group purchasing does. Your next step is to see if there
is a group that you can join that offers group rates. If
you are self employed or have your own business, chances are
that your business or profession may have a professional or
trade organization that offers Medical Insurance through the
group.

The writer of this article resides in Pittsburgh, Pa where
he has been involved quite indirectly in the construction
industry. When we say “quite indirectly” we are talking
about being in sales and having a sales business which
provides pumps and equipment to contractors. Because of
that association, the writer qualified for membership in the
local Builder’s Association which had pooled its many
members to obtain group rates. This is cited in this article
because you as a reader may not have an apparent direct
connection to a group, but you might qualify through an
association as the writer has done. If you need to provide
your own medical insurance, by all means check this out.

Are, or were you involved in federal or military service?
You may find a group association here.. try your VFW, your
TROA, your American Legion. One company that advertises for
the self employed is NASE. I’ve never checked them out, but
I do hear advertising.

So let’s assume you have found a supplier, regardless of
your status. Most suppliers offer a choice of programs
ranging from HMO to PPO. What may seem to be the best deal
may not be so at all because of length of time to coverage.

BE ABSOLUTELY CLEAR ON THE PRE-EXISTING CLAUSES. Even if you
consider yourself healthy and not under treatment, if you
had a past work related physical or other physical and a
condition was noted as detected.. but you felt it was not
worth pursuing treatment for, and in fact, you are not
having a treatment or medication… if it’s on the record
SOMEwhere and you subsequently have a claim… if it’s
related to the diagnosis, not only could that claim be
denied, but your entire policy voided under the provisions
of fraudulent application if you did NOT state a pre-
existing condition.

Yes, insurance companies want your money and to have you as
a client, but they are there as profit makers first, and if
they can find a way to NOT pay you that they are legally
entitled to… you won’t get a claim paid. You MUST have
everything in writing including any exceptions to a
precondition. Better to be turned down up front than
canceled when you need them.

Lastly, if you can not get or pay for insurance, but have a
family with minor children: Many states have programs that
will insure your minor children at no or nominal fees. These
state programs will not necessarily seek you out and sign
you up.. you need to do your research. Do not hesitate to
call your county health association or your state insurance
commissioner. Someone will know.

We hope that this article, and the fact you probably found
it on the Internet will help. Be sure and use Internet tools
and search engines and you’ll probably find more resources
than you ever thought existed. Search terms such as
“discounted medical insurance” or disease/condition specific
insurance will yield results. don’t spend another day
unprotected.

Many people may not realize that dogs, just like human beings, can suffer from allergies. In fact, about twenty percent of the dogs in the United States alone suffer from allergy at any one time, with flea allergy dermatitis being the most common form of allergy in dogs. Other types include atopic dermatitis, inhalant allergies, and food allergies.

Signs and symptoms of dog allergies may vary but are often marked by persistent itching and discoloration of the skin (most common with skin allergies), coughing, sneezing, wheezing, and mucus discharge (most common with inhalant allergies), and nausea, lethargy, vomiting, and diarrhea (common with food allergies.)

Over-the-counter preparations and treatments for common dog allergies exist and may be purchased at any good pet supply store, but care should be taken when choosing such treatments. Consultation with a vet is the best first course of action for several reasons. First of all, what you think is an allergic reaction may actually be signs of a more serious ailment and a vet should be the one to determine whether that is the case. Secondly, if the allergy is severe enough, over-the-counter treatments may not be sufficient to treat the symptoms. There is also the chance that the dog does not have an allergy at all. The last thing you want to do is medicate your pet unnecessarily.

If you do think your dog has some type of allergy, consult your vet. He or she will be able to perform tests to determine whether an allergic condition exists, how severe it is, and what the appropriate treatment should be. If the dog has an allergy to certain foods, it will be imperative to restrict the animal’s diet to eliminate those items that cause a reaction. The vet’s testing methods can help to determine whether this type of allergy exists as well. If the dog has flea allergy dermatitis (an allergic reaction to the saliva of fleas, rather than to the insects themselves), an strict flea prevention regimen will be recommended.

The vet may also recommend cortisone or steroids. Many vets are conventionally trained and do not offer holistic alternatives, which can be just as good as the toxic drugs which vets routinely prescribe. So before you accept your vet’s recommendations for drugs, do investigate the alternatives:

1. Natural Flea Treatments

2. Natural Worm Treatments

3. Detoxification of Your Dog’s System if your dog has taken toxic drugs or been exposed to chemicals (household cleaners, insecticides, etc.) in the past.

4. Past steroid use may have compromised Your Dog’s Immune System (characterized by such chronic illness as Lyme’s Disease and many others). Your dog’s immune system can also be boosted by natural means.

5. Treat your dog’s skin allergies naturally from the inside and out.

You should always discuss your intentions with your vet, when proceeding with any new regime, whether natural or otherwise, but knowledge is power. And being armed with the knowledge of the harm that conventional medicines can cause, and the effectiveness of holistic, natural, alternative methods, will stand you in good stead. Many vets are open to such alternatives when asked directly about them by a pet owner who has done research and is looking for a more natural way of dealing with illness, and this case specifically, allergies, in their dog.

Just like humans, dogs that suffer from various allergies can live comfortably with them if they are detected and treated properly. It is important to bear in mind that this is not a time to “play doctor” by attempting to diagnose and treat a possible allergic condition yourself. Only your veterinarian is qualified to determine whether your dog is suffering from allergies. What course of action to take, however, may well be a matter for discussion between you and your vet.

We all have ways of testing opportunities that enter our lives. Some of us just dive right in based on feeling, others walk straight into what they know is right by a gut feeling or intuition. And if it’s not gut feelings or emotions that are the tests of opportunities, it is the logical mind persuading us to ignore those feelings and emotions and test it with our reality of reason.

Most of us do not have a predetermined strategy for testing opportunities, or even more generally to test the actions we take and the choices we make in our lives.

There is an easier way to determine if our choices we make and the opportunities we receive ‘pass the test’. This simple 32 word statement of business ethics was first created in the 1930s and used to turn around a failing company. These four questions were applied by each employee to each and to every minute detail of the company’s workings. This little list of four questions from Rotary International, a humanitarian business organization, is the most widely printed, translated and reproduced piece of business ethics today:

“Of the things we say, think or do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?”

If we built businesses and our lives based on these very simple 4 questions we would be coming from a place completely the opposite of the competitive mind and the lack mentality. As you can see, these questions prompt you to choose what is true, fair, and good, making choices that can build friendships and goodwill. It helps us to see how the choices we make can be beneficial to all concerned.

Because of our societal influences, we most often are inclined to make choices and act based on a competitive mind. This comes from the perspective of lack, scarcity, and ultimately greed.

Any opportunity based on the model of competition and lack will simply not pass the test. Competition promotes strife. It embodies winning one spot, taking it away from all the other people who want it. It misleads people to believing there is only one chance for success, when in reality there is plenty for all.

The competitive model encourages people to rely on a source outside of themselves to give them what they need. This denies the power of their own ability to create what they want. This narrow focus shows they are choosing to ignore the possibility of creating this opportunity in their own lives, instead of trying to win the spot from millions of others.

This simple testing technique takes us completely out of the competitive mind of greed, scarcity and lack. It turns our thoughts and choices toward the positive, realizing there are opportunities we can take that can provide increase for all concerned.

I invite you to use these questions to test your actions and opportunities in your life. If you are seeking opportunity, these questions may help you see things in a different way. In doing this, perhaps you might find an opportunity in your life which truly allows you to benefit the world, while at the same time reaching whatever your dreams, goals, and desires are.
