Are you trying to lose weight?

If you are, STOP!

Funny thing to say coming from someone that wants to help you lose all the weight you want, right?

Actually, there’s a good reason.

You see, you can’t try to lose weight. Don’t believe me?

OK, let’s use an example. Look around where you are sitting right now and find a small object. Perhaps a pen, envelope or book. Got it?

Now, try to pick it up. Go ahead.

Is it in your hand? If it is, well, then you didn’t try, you actually picked it up. If it’s not in your hand, you didn’t.

Simple, right?

There’s no middle ground in doing. You can’t “try” to do anything, it’s a fallacy. You either do it, or don’t do it.

The same applies to losing weight (or anything else for that matter). Saying that you’ll try gives your mind fuzzy instructions, and it will return fuzzy results, results that aren’t what you really want. It also gives you a “way out” if you don’t achieve the goals you set out to reach.

You see, your subconscious mind doesn’t interpret your directions, it just goes to work following them as complete truth. When you say you’ll “try to lose weight”, it will “try” to follow your instructions, which we now know is impossible.

What in fact you want, (if you really do) is to lose weight. To feel better. To have more energy. To overcome health challenges. To look great.

Now, if you say you want to lose weight and are not successful, or continue to use language that includes words like “try” or “we’ll see” or “maybe”, perhaps you’re wired backwards.

What does that mean? Well, maybe you say that you want to lose weight, but your mind says it doesn’t. Somewhere along the way you gave your mind instructions that it’s too hard, or impossible, to lose the weight you want. Perhaps you’re more comfortable where you are now, but know that it’s the right thing to say that you want to lose weight.

If this is the case, ask yourself what beliefs you hold that are at odds with what you want. For example, “it’s too hard to lose weight”, “it’s impossible to lose weight”, “I can’t lose weight because I’d have to exercise all the time”, “I’ll lose my friends if I lose weight”, “I can’t lose weight because I’ve always failed”.

Ask yourself if in fact they are true. Are they making your life easier, or more difficult? Do these beliefs serve you or harm you?

Then, replace the old beliefs with new ones. Positive, confident statements about how you want to look and feel.

The best way to lose weight is to avoid saying you’ll “try” to lose weight, and say you “will” lose weight. See yourself at your ideal weight. Imagine how great you look and feel. Use positive language and give your mind specific instructions like “I’m now happily at my ideal weight of (number of pounds) weight” or “I now happily choose to wear a size (your ideal size)”.

Watch your language and self talk closely and avoid using “try”. It may take constant attention at the beginning, but after a short time, you’ll get used to keeping your language positive, upbeat and confident.

Your weight loss results will follow immediately, depending on how confident, committed and persistent you are in applying these exercises. The more confident, committed and persistent, the faster your results will appear.

You CAN do it!

What is more beautiful than seeing a home or building with an arch of climbing roses in the landscaping? Climbing roses are one of many plants that branch out and intertwine themselves among arches, trellises, or even buildings and railings. They can add a great landscape element to any foundation.

Climbing roses are different from the regular roses that are planted as they are trained to grow upward like vines. Some of them are hybrid teas, wichuraine, and large flowered climbers. They are a beautiful addition to the look of one’s house

Would you like more information about climbing roses? It is easy to learn about this great beauty. First of all, there are many types of climbing roses. They range in color, texture, and look. They also range in hardiness as well. Of course, you need to know what you are looking of in your climbing rose. When choosing climbing roses, some things that you need to consider are size, shade tolerance, disease resistance and colour.

Most important is knowing your hardiness level. This tells you what will grow in your area. Also as important is to pick varieties that will grow in the element you are placing them. What type of soil will you use? Will the area have full sun, partial sun, or will it be in shade.

Before getting discouraged, though, realize that there are many varieties of climbing roses to choose from and more then likely, you will find something to meet your needs. To find variety, forget about choosing your local hardware store, discount department store, or even the local gardening outlet. While these places often have a good selection, they don’t have the most.

Use the internet to find some great climbing roses of the most beautiful variety. Often you can have a catalog sent to you with many choices, or you can find and buy online. You will be able to find just what you are looking for, or maybe even something you never imagined.

Climbing roses can add a lot to any landscape. Take the time to choose climbing roses that fit your area and landscape design. Also, grab a book or do a little research online about the care the type of climbing rose you chose will need. Taking this time to do these things will give you the best climbing rose you can get.

Most writers would like to be prolific in their chosen field, but not many really want to be prolific procrastinators.

Being one myself, I’ve discovered there are innumerable ways to put this innate skill to work. After all, how can I possibly write when my head is still fuzzy from sleep? This must be overcome first, which means having a pot of tea, taking a shower, seeing to the dogs’ needs, and catching up on the morning’s news via television.

That’s where my procrastination hit its stride. Until now.

Recently, I read a tale about a baker who puts up a beggar for the night, despite his struggling business. The next day, the beggar tells him, “Whatever you start, you will do all day.” The baker decides to make cookies with his last bit of flour and give them to a sick child. The delicious aroma drifting onto the street attracts many customers, but the baker is too busy to serve them. They serve themselves and leave the money on the counter. The baker’s business is saved for one more day.

A fellow merchant seeks the beggar, puts him up for the night, and gets the same message next day, “Whatever you start, you will do all day.” So the merchant sweeps the floor and counts his cash in anticipation of all the customers. When they come, he’s too busy to serve them, so they leave without buying anything. And the merchant spends the day sweeping and counting.

When I read that tale, I realized how much truth there was to it. From the moment I turned on my television set each morning, nothing else happened. Oh, I’d find time to run a few dishes under the tap, nibble on a sandwich, survey my 2500 square foot “estate” to make sure it was all still there, gaze into the sky to make sure it hadn’t disappeared either, and take a moment to sit in the sun to rest my brain, weary from absorbing all that input.

Afterward, when the news was in repeat mode and I found myself watching a version of “Murder She Wrote” for the fourth time, I’d turn to reading about writing. Know your craft. Isn’t that what experts say? Or, you can never learn enough.

Over the years, I’ve tried many techniques to get me writing, rather than just reading about it. One such attempt was to make a schedule of my day and detail everything from reading and answering my email for one hour only and searching the internet for markets or resources for two hours a day, to writing letters, queries and articles for four hours a day.

Its success was minimal because the internet took a great deal of time with my slow computer. And then there are all those intriguing links that seem important enough to lure me away from my intended research. Mostly, they would lead me to good information that will be useful for a piece I might want to write in the future, but they do nothing to further today’s efforts.

Trying to survive on a budget that doesn’t even fit a shoestring makes job hunting a dual goal. Before long, I’ve spent more time job hunting and researching than approaching a specific market or developing story ideas. The schedule still hangs on my wall, mostly forgotten.

Reviewing my former life as a secretary, I wondered why I was more organized and motivated then than now. My desk was cleaned every night and unfinished projects were piled in order of importance in my in-basket, ready to be completed and delivered the next morning. It was necessary to have such a system then, because my bosses would hover like vultures around my desk wondering when their work would be done. With five bosses, I’d soon have a mini-swarm blocking my light.

Putting this concept to use, I designed a notebook, complete with an orange glowing sun on the cover with the words, “Things To Do Today.” It turned out to be the major turning point in my procrastination career.

At the end of each day, I write down everything I want to get done and give them a date. Not a completion date. I head up each page with the date I enter them. In one column, I write the task and in another, I enter a check mark or a date when it’s completed. Each day starts with a new page and new goals. And every morning, I review the previous day’s list to see what I’d accomplished and what was left to do. The idea is to finalize all the old tasks before starting on the newer ones.

At first, the undone tasks outnumbered the completed ones. Seeing all those stale items every morning was unsettling, especially when I was more inspired to work on the fresh ones. What I hadn’t anticipated was how much it would bother me to look back at old lists and see so many things not marked off. Evidently, checking items off my list became the true goal.

Somewhere along the way, getting tasks done became the bonus and my focus. There was something satisfying about watching your life and accomplishments unfold one task at a time and being able to tell yourself every day, “I did all that.”

Ordering checks online has many benefits. First of all, it is a great way to have a customized design that matches your personality. Designs range from NASCAR, Disney and Christian and everything in between. There are so many to choose from, that it is impossible to not find the right design for you. Online merchants have hundreds of designs to choose from, and a lot of information on personal checks, address labels, business checks, rubber stamps or envelopes.

In addition to designs, the preferred merchants offer many different quantity options. It is possible to order 1 to 4 boxes, or order them in single or duplicates – it is up to you. And, if you would rather get your boxes on rush order from the plant, that is a possibility as well. Orders are available at almost any quantity, and beginning with whatever number you choose.

Another advantage of ordering your replacements online is that they are normally less expensive than going through your banking institution. Most of the time, ordering through your bank will cost you almost double and give you far less options than going through one of our online merchants.

There are a few things to consider when ordering business or personal checks online.

First, you need to have your bank’s routing number, account number, and address (usually a deposit slip is helpful as reference). Also, it may be a good time to order address labels, rubber stamps, or envelopes. Many merchants offer discounts when purchasing a bundle of products together, and most offer first time customers’ discounts as well. Look for the additional products like checkbook covers, and labels when you are placing your order.

Ordering checks online is secure and easy

When dealing with your bank account, it is a good idea to use companies that are registered with the Better Business Bureau and have a good standing reputation. Ordering online is very safe and offers many benefits. In fact, there is a lot of verification that goes into every online order to make sure that it is secure, safe and easy. Most times there is a waiting period so that online check merchants will have time to verify your information with your financial institution. Normally, this is around 3 to 5 business days.

When you have decided to start with your yoga practice, it is imperative for you to learn how to perform a pose properly. Thus it is advisable for you to find a right teacher who will guide you in the correct manner of performing these poses. Since yogic exercises involve the static and isometric contraction of the muscles, where the muscles are held in a state of tension without causing the corresponding body part to move; it is important to note that the stretching or contraction of the muscles should not be done abruptly or suddenly. You should endeavour to reach the final pose as slowly as you can, so that there is a steady rise in the tension of the muscles. Always reach the final posture slowly through the intermediate postures. Master all these postures slowly one by one.

The movement of each body part should be done under complete control of the muscles exercised. This is achieved only after practicing for a certain period of time. There should be no jerks or violent movements. Each step should be executed easily, smoothly and gracefully. Initially, when you start learning the yoga, there is a tendency to use muscles not concerned with the specified movement. But over a period of time with due practice, you can eliminate the unproductive muscular activity. As you progress, you learn to use only the specified muscles for contraction or stretching while the other muscles are kept relaxed.

Avoid rushing into the final position of any posture, unless you have thoroughly mastered the intermediate stages. Always proceed as far as comfortably you can and hold this pose for some time. This will train the required muscles in a few days and thus you can get smoothness and grace. Take caution not to overwork any muscles. Do not control or restrict your breathing. If you are sick or absent from your practice for a long time, start slowly and reach the previous level only after some time. At the end of the session, you should feel fresh and relaxed. You must experience the lightness and exhilaration at the end of every session.

You can adjust the duration of various techniques according to your capacity and there should be no exhaustion or tension.

Following all these practices will ensure you get a correct yoga session.

Kevin Pederson is the webmaster for Yogawiz where you can find information on yoga basics, different yoga asanas, poses and much more.

The latest ploy by the virulent anti-gun forces is to use the current fear of terrorism to push their agenda. They say that the terrorists are buying scads of firearms, especially assault rifles, through the gaping “loopholes” at the hated GUN SHOWS! As usual, they are lying through their teeth. Terrorists, like other kinds of criminals buy their weapons from scumbags just like themselves.

In the first place, the weapons the gun-grabbers love to hate are NOT assault weapons. They are all semi-automatic with operating mechanisms not much different from hunting or target rifles. “Assault weapons” are fully automatic, are exceedingly difficult to purchase or sell and have heavy government restrictions. Secondly, the gunshow “loophole” doesn’t exist. All licensed dealers at such shows are required to obey all laws regarding the sale of firearms, including background checks. The folks that buy or sell guns to each other as individuals do not fall under those regulations any more than they would if they were trading in their own home. Another gungrabber boogieman slain.

The “Brady Bunch,” one of the most virulent of the gun grabber outfits has decided that Florida’s new “Castle” doctrine will take us to the brink of civil war, so they are flooding the state’s major airports with fliers denouncing the law and they are placing ads in the newspapers of cities that provide a lot of Florida’s tourists warning them of the supposed danger. These are the same people who warn that every new law that makes it easier for law-abiding folks to have firearms will result in streets flowing with blood and law-enforcement officers slaughtered in their thousands They haven’t been right yet but they just hope for one tiny hiccup in the crime statistics because they know the media will turn it into a full scale massacre.

The anti-gun weenies also want to convince American citizens that government, not the people, are primarily responsible for protecting the individual. Well folks, it may come as a shock but the United States Supreme Court has plainly stated that the individual has no right to expect protection from the government police forces.

The only people who are going to protect us is; US!

It’s time for the Bush administration to knock off the kinder and gentler rhetoric they seem to love so much and rescind all of the previous administration’s anti-gun Executive Orders and Directives and to get their minions in Congress to work on legislation to permanently repeal the dreaded BATF 922 regulations on the importation of firearms as well as the myriad of other laws that have effectively disarmed a large part of the American populace.

If there are to be terrorist attacks on American soil in the future, (and I’m certain there will be) the people should be allowed to be at least as well armed as the terrorists. That means semi-automatic long arms, usually (and incorrectly, see above) referred to by the Left biased media as “assault weapons” and modern semi-auto handguns. Can’t you just see a bunch of American civilians going up against a gang of al-Qaida terrorists who are armed with AK-47s, AK-74s, high-capacity handguns and RPGs, while they are limited to an assortment of bolt action hunting rifles, .22 plinkers, rusty revolvers and antiquated shotguns? That’s all the anti-gun forces think we should have. The enemy has no such restrictions.

Suppose you are in a supermarket or department store and a bunch of armed homicide bombers comes charging in. You are faced with two choices; meekly submit and have a one hundred percent chance of being blown to smithereens or pull out your gun, fight back and have a chance to survive? Take your pick. I know mine.

Whenever the subject of easing the restrictions on Americans owning and carrying guns is raised the gungrabbers always paint a grim picture of western movie style slaughter in the streets. In fact the actual record shows quite a different picture. In states where “Must Issue” laws have been passed to allow any law abiding citizen to carry a gun, the rate of violent crime has gone down. The number of confrontations involving legal gun toters is nearly nonexistent. As usual, where bullets are flying through the air, they come from the guns of the gangs and drug dealers who continue to shoot each other up with illegally acquired firearms.

The Brady Bunch likes to use the specter of the “High Noon” or “O.K. Corral” shootouts as a grim reminder of the horrific results of an armed populace. In fact, that’s all Hollywood fiction. The “Old West” was actually a pretty peaceful place, in part because there were so many armed people around that the occasional miscreant would think twice about committing a crime, lest the mild-mannered storekeeper haul out his Colt .45 and “ventilate the varmint!”

Another straw man dragged out by the gun haters is the fear of the “vigilantes,” sometimes grandly referred to as “Committees of Vigilance.” (Even President Bush has bought into this baloney when referring to “The Minuteman Project.” down on the Mexican border) Always portrayed as evil men acting at the behest of some wealthy land baron, keeping the locals thoroughly cowed while they awaited the appearance of the handsome, clean cut, good hearted U.S. Marshal. The reason they can get away with that nonsense is that’s how the vigilantes were portrayed in decades of Hollywood western movies and TV shows to the point that the viewers believed, and still believe, that the films were a reflection of real life.

Were the vigilantes all honest, public minded citizens trying to bring a semblance of law to their frontier towns? Considering human nature, probably not, but neither were they all nefarious evil-doers. In most cases they were just regular folks who wanted to bring a semblance of law to their town and knew that the government wouldn’t and couldn’t provide it.

That’s what we need to do. Realize that the government can’t and won’t provide individual protection and that either as groups or as individuals we must provide the means and the mettle to take care of ourselves, our loved ones and our property. That’s what being an American used to be about. That’s what it should be from this day forward.

First aid is a foundation of information that we all need to know. There are several types of first aid and anyone can benefit from getting the first aid training out there. The good news is that it is fairly easy to find this information. You will find that there are a number of different organizations that provide you with this information. You will also be able to find first aid training from local hospitals, the Red Cross or other areas. First aid is something we will all need in our time. The bad news is that only a few people will be equipped to take care of problems as they arise and that is very sad news as well.

First aid is a term given to the many various life saving techniques that the layperson can perform when there is not a medical person in the area. In fact, first aid can and should be administers as needed until someone arrives to help in the emergency. Effective training is necessary when it comes to first aid. You can’t just do it, you need to know how to do it first. It is recommended that individuals get training every two years to update them on new procedures to help safeguard the individuals that are at risk.

First aid is often taught in a series of lessons that tell you to perform four steps whenever there is an emergency situation. Here are what those steps are:

First, assess what has happened. Determine if the patient is in need of being moved or if the situation puts you at risk of being hurt if you do help them.

Then, assess the patient to see how well they are, if they can or should be moved and then act accordingly.

Third, in first aid you will need to call for help. Use whatever means are necessary to get help.

Finally, do the best you can to help the patient. In other words, do what you have been trained to do to help them.

There are many cases in which first aid will be necessary. Taking whatever steps you can to help individuals is something we all need to do. Getting first aid training is the crucial first step. Don’t wait, because even a day is too long and could be too late.

You exercise your cardio-vascular system with aerobics. You strengthen your muscular system with weight training. You watch your diet to avoid pollutants and supply nutrients. All these good things provide your body with health and vitality. What’s missing? Your brain.

You work your heart and muscles to improve their condition and tone. You want to have a low resting heart rate and slow deep breathing all the time. Exercise definitely helps all that. There is nothing better you can do for depression than regular exercise. But it’s also very desirable to directly train the nervous system to operate efficiently and effectively. Anyone can become more sane.

When I tell you to exercise your brain I don’t mean soduku and crossword puzzles. For almost everyone, stimulation is not the big issue. The problem is inadequate capacity for relaxation of the nervous system. I don’t mean the kind of relaxation that you get after physical exhaustion or a few shots of tequila. I mean training the relaxation response.

The methods I describe below have permanent benefits for a broad range of issues. Most of them involve biological monitoring and biofeedback. Biofeedback means interactive training with a display of your physiological responses. It is like exercising with an inner body mirror.

These nervous system training devices quickly and reliably calm the brain, the most important organ in your body. They guide you toward optimal flow and function of your nerves.

A cheap and easy device for your mental gym is a digital thermometer. The biofeedback task is to increase your finger or toe temperature. This is a mind-body exercise with trial and error learning. The opposite of the fight ‘r flight response is rest ‘n digest. Learning how to bring blood flow to your extremities is a particular form of relaxation that can be mastered with training and practice. Google: “stress thermometer” for the $20 item.

A lie detector monitors subtle physiological reactions to detect stress. You can reduce stress by training with some of those same monitors. The Journey to Wild Divine is a rather sedate computer game with dozens of biofeedback challenges. You have the mouse in one hand and biofeedback sensors in the other. As you follow the beautiful road on the monitor you are prompted to increase or decrease your nervous energy levels in order to proceed in the game.

What’s going on here is that you are consciously paving the road between activation and relaxation. As you intentionally clear the road you are expanding the range and flexibility of your physiological responses. This allows you greater freedom of response at all times. That means you can more easily calm yourself down after getting upset or maintain yourself in the optimal performance zone with greater resilience.

Another group of devices gets your heart rhythms and breathing in sync. The idea here is based on the observation that when we inhale our heart rate increases. And when we exhale, our heart rate decreases. Having a wide range of heart rates within a single breath is an excellent indicator of overall health.

The free way to train for heart rate variability is to breath at 6 breaths per minute: 5 seconds in, 5 seconds out. But using a watch is rarely a successful way to train. Counting your heart beats is slightly better. But to seriously train heart rate variability you need a computer program such as HeartMath ($300) or the hand held device made by StressEraser ($400). An alternate way to train heart rhythms is feel and hold warm expressive positive emotions.

The king of biofeedback training methods is brain wave biofeedback. This kind of training has a large body of research over 35 years showing substantial relief from a large number of mind and body problems. There is also strong evidence for peak performance training with students, athletes, performers and soldiers. Indeed the U.S. Army is beginning an aggressive training program for officers on 13 bases following the work done at West Point. The main emphasis for the Army is improved mental focus.

Consumers can buy an EEG and software for home or you can work with a biofeedback trainer. Google: EEG biofeedback or neurofeedback. Systems will cost over a thousand dollars to $2500 and may require a hot computer.

Neurofeedback involves use of equipment that amplifies and displays the electrical activity of the brain, (EEG). Sensors attached to the scalp are connected to an encoder which feeds the signals to a computer. Some of these systems up train certain brain wave frequencies and down train others. The most advanced software reduces excess brain wave volatility.

Sophisticated software allows for graphical display of the signals and includes programs based on complex mathematical formulas designed to provide the central nervous system with information in a form which is readily processed. The role that the conscious mind plays in this process is minimal. You simply absorb pleasing visual displays and sounds. Brief pauses guide the brain toward peace, resilience and flexibility. You can think of this as defragmenting your brain or removing brain crud.

The final healing gadget is not a biofeedback device but does have the most research support. Cranial Electrical Stimulation units run a very mild electrical current through your brain. So very mild you don’t feel it. These devices are approved by the FDA for anxiety, depression and insomnia. Many research articles show relief from plenty of other problems too. You typically use this device for 30 to 60 minutes for 30 to 60 days. We know that it reduces excess slow brain wave activity. It seems to re-set your stress levels. It seems to trick the brain into producing serotonin. Some people feel the runners’ high without the running.

All of these devices produce broad benefits that last for the long term. The particular benefit and size of the effect varies for each person. These gadgets work well for spiffing up your responsiveness or with multiple problems because the central nervous system is central to all that we do.
